At the Jonathan Webb Clinic we have two Sports Physicians, Dr Stuart Miller and Dr Paul Jackson. They both work with the English Institute of Sport and regularly treat Olympic athletes and top flight sports men and women.
Stuart Miller Dip Sport Med, FFSEM Stuart is currently the Medical Officer to the England Karate Team and was a sports doctor to the 2002 Commonwealth Games athletes village in Manchester. He is the Chief Medical Officer for the British Paralympic Association and will be accompanying the GB Paralympic Team to the Beijing games this summer.
He is an examiner & course director of the Bath University Sports Medicine Course for doctors and has contributed to many of the modules and redesign of the course. He has lectured in sports medicine both in the UK and abroad for a number of years.
Dr Paul D Jackson Dip Sport Med, FFSEM MRCGP Paul has been involved in sports medicine for over 18 years. From 1993 to 2001 he was involved with the Rugby Football Union as doctor to the England 7s team and the XV. He is now doctor to the Olympic Modern Pentathlon Team and was invited to accompany the England Cricket Team during their 2006 Ashes tour to Australia. Paul is also an examiner and dissertation supervisor for the Bath University Sports Medicine Course and is on the editorial board of the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine.
Sports Medicine encompasses the advice and treatment of all aspects of medicine relating to sports participation. This may include:
- Injury management
- Rehabilitation from injury
- Fitness assessment and advice
- Investigation of poor performance
- Overuse and training injuries
- Advice for people with medical problems wishing to participate in sport
They both offer non-operative management of musculoskeletal injury and pain. Areas where they can particularly help include:
- Occupational back pain
- Repetitive strain injury to hand, shoulders and wrists and general upper limb problems
- Medical management of join pain in conditions such as arthritis, frozen shoulder and tendonitis
