Dr Shane Clarke MD PGCME FRCP
Shane Clarke qualified from St.Mary's Hospital in London in 1991. He has since acquired a thorough training in rheumatology and osteoporosis working in London, Sydney, the National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases
(Bath) and Bristol. He completed his medical doctorate (MD) on the use of DXA for osteoarthritis and was awarded a prestigious ARC Medical Education Fellowship to study shoulder and knee pain.
Since becoming a consultant in Weston he has developed direct access services for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and a brand new diagnostic and management service for patients with osteoporosis. He co-authored the 2007 ARMA National Guidelines: Management of Regional Musculoskeletal Pain in spare time and serves nationally on the ARC Education Sub-committee and ERAN Research and Education Committee. Dr Clarke has recently completed a commissioned chapter on diagnosis and management of osteoarthritis for the University of Bath Diploma Course.
To date he has published over 40 scientific articles. He is a referee to the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases and Age & Aging. He maintains a keen interest in medical education and is both Assistant Dean at North Somerset Academy and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol.
